Cala Saona is situated along the central part of the west coast of the island of Formentera, located between Punta Rasa and Calo d’en Trull.
It is part of the รrea Natural d’Especial Interรจs de Cap Alt
The bay is located about 5 kilometers from the center of San Francesc Xavier.
The bottom of the cove slopes down in depth very gently: at about forty meters from the coast the depth is only two meters and gradually increases to 4-5 meters, about 200 meters from the coast.
This is the ideal area for anchoring, on a sandy bottom and good tenor.
The beautiful seabed and crystal clear waters also attract many scuba diving enthusiasts here.
The cove is not particularly windy and is mainly affected by westerly and northwesterly winds.
Entering the cove, from the Punta Rasa side, it is good to pay attention to some submerged rocks outcropping at the water’s edge.
Along the inner eastern side of Saona Bay is a beach, with fine, clear sand.
It is flanked by two high cliffs, while at the back it is enclosed by some dunes, with beautiful pine forests surrounding it.
In the peak season months, a bathing establishment is located here, where umbrellas and beach chairs can be rented.
The beach is in a quiet, semi-urban location, but is easily accessible by public transportation, bicycle, or car.
There is also free parking nearby.
These features make it a popular destination, especially for locals.
In the summer season, the area has a surveillance service with a turret.
A number of hotels, clubs, restaurants, and businesses can be found around the beach.
In the immediate vicinity of Cala Saona is a bar a restaurant.
Without having to go too far from the beach, it is also possible to find a hotel and a mini market.
The port area of La Savina is located about si kilometers from the bay.
