Located in the southern part of Ischia, Maronti Bay is part of the municipality of Barano.
The bay extends into the southwestern part of the island and is bordered by the promontory of Punta Sant’Angelo to the west and Capo Grosso to the east.
The bay is well sheltered from northwesterly winds and offers a seabed that is particularly suitable for deep water, even during the night.
The most suitable areas for giving anchor in the inlet are in the immediate vicinity of the ports -near the charming village of Sant’Angelo-, or in front of Maronti beach. Whichever you choose, you will always enjoy good protection from the west and mistral winds.
There are no particular dangers in the mirror of the bay, but in case the weather conditions are not particularly favorable, it is still advisable to seek shelter by landing in one of Ischia’s ports.
The closest is undoubtedly the small port of Sant’Angelo, nestled under the islet of the same name, which offers protection from winds of the I and IV quadrants.
The port can accommodate approximately a hundred boats, so in the summertime it may prove difficult to find room for your boat.
But in good weather conditions, the option of anchoring in the bay certainly remains a viable option.
The waters of Ischia-along with those of Procida and Vivara-are part of theNeptune Kingdom Marine Protected Area, an oasis that aims to protect the local marine fauna and flora. All activities that could in any way harm them, unless precisely regulated, are therefore banned.
Once you get to the mainland, you can find a good selection of bars, restaurants, businesses.
There is also a bus station around the bay, which is certainly a great way to get around the island and learn about other municipalities.
From Maronti Bay there is a magnificent view of the islet of Sant’Angelo, the small fishing village and the magnificent, dense Mediterranean scrubland that dominates the hills. Sant’Angelo is one of the most characteristic areas of the island, and in summer it becomes a destination for many tourists.
Maronti beach, on the other hand, is more than three kilometers long, is well sheltered by the surrounding hills and features a long series of fumaroles and hot springs.
Among the most famous springs is that of Cava Scura.
The numerous coves along the coast will undoubtedly delight snorkeling enthusiasts.
It is definitely worth indulging in a tour of the hills of Barano, to enjoy the magnificent views straddling the sky and the land.
