Cala Bianca is one of the anchorages closest to the port of Marina di Camerota, close to the Cilento and Vallo di Diano National Park. The establishment in 1991 of this park made it possible to protect a large part of the Cilento territory, one of the areas in the south of Campania, which precisely because of the beauty of its beaches was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
This wide area includes the coasts of the Salerno province with their golden or dark sandy beaches and clear waters. Among these is certainly Cala Bianca listed in 2013 among the most beautiful beaches in Italy according to a survey launched by Legambiente. It is a true masterpiece of nature to be carefully preserved as well understood by the inhabitants of these areas for whom it had already become a source of pride and praise even before the Legambiente survey.
The origin of this bay’s name comes from the shiny white pebbles that form the beach, and it is also renowned for having one of the cleanest seas on the entire peninsula. Not surprisingly, voters in Legambiente’s survey called it an unparalleled paradise on earth. It is a true tropical oasis that can be reached without having to take a plane.
This anchorage belongs to one of the wildest stretches of coastline in ‘Italy; in which there are no roads, houses, or hotels, found only by moving a few kilometers away. There are only about thirty beautiful coves, of various sizes, Mediterranean maquis and crystal clear sea.
Coming from the sea, this anchorage offers an expanse of white sand, surrounded by the green of lush Mediterranean scrub and wild rocks, which contrasts with the cobalt blue of the crystal-clear waters such that the bottom can be glimpsed even offshore. On the promontory surrounding the radia there is also the striking Cala Bianca Tower, while in the seabed in front of it there is an icy freshwater spring, called S. Caterina, that flows into the sea.
The bay can be reached quite easily by boat, being also one of the few means by which it can be reached from nearby ports that have long organized excursions to the area. Getting there by land is somewhat challenging, because you have to take a long path from Marina di Camerota, unsuitable for those with mobility problems, which engages a walk of over an hour through the Cilento Park. Clearly it is a very beautiful and difficult to access cove in which there are no facilities of any kind or minimal refreshment points.
Anyone who has visited the anchorage and its white-sand beach shrouded in the wild vegetation of the Park calls it a paradise where one can find calm and peace as well as one of the most beautiful places to bathe in the Cilento region .
Avoiding the summer period when it becomes overcrowded and poorly maintained, this bay on the Salerno coast is evocative and offers a wide variety of aquatic fauna for diving enthusiasts. It is definitely a destination to be experienced with an ecological spirit and a conservation approach to the biosphere: Cala Bianca, in fact, is part of the marine protected area that runs from Marina di Camerota to Scario in the Cilento National Park
