Capri Marina Piccola

One of the best-known anchorages near the Marina of Capri, completely open to the south, more than a marina it is a bay where a landing is possible, intended as a slipway for tenders. The Marina Piccola landing is located on the slopes of Monte Solaro and is enhanced by the incomparable view of the nearby Faraglioni rocks.

This bay in the heart of the Tyrrhenian Sea, one of the busiest areas on the island of the same name, had originated as a small cluster of houses near an ancient Roman landing, for the reserved use of Capri fishermen only.

A beautiful anchorage, equipped with a single bathing establishment on stilts that can offer temporary shelter, particularly from northern winds, to small boats being this anchorage totally devoid of services. It is possible to reach Marina Piccola by following the characteristic serpentine curves of the famous Via Krupp, a pedestrian road made by cutting through the living rock from upstream all the way down to the sea.

It is important for every yachtsman to know that it is not advisable to anchor in all other bays because of the high and rocky seabed. The seabed of Marina Piccola, on the other hand, a mixture of sand and posidonia, rises gently from 70 mt to 10 mt, so it allows anchoring in the innermost part, entering the bay from the left side. There are some zones of prohibition to transit, navigation and the performance of any activity along the coast of the Island of Capri, so it is necessary to always contact the competent Maritime Authority

The anchorage of Marina Piccola is the place to head, especially if you are looking for a beach with a view of the Faraglioni rocks. Overlooking the south side of the island, from the Piazzetta you can take the bus from the terminus or walk down, first walking down Via Roma to the Due Golfi resort and then taking the steps to Via Mulo.

Near the small square at the bus terminus in Marina Piccola is the staircase leading to the pebble beach and the small Church of St. Andrew, built in 1900.

Going down the stairs, one arrives at the Scoglio delle Sirene, which, according to the theories of some scholars, was the location of the terrible Sirens narrated by Homer in theOdyssey. These rocks divide the bay of Marina Piccola into two small beaches, Marina di Mulo and MarinadiPennauro, which were used by the ancient Romans as small ports.

In planning a day in Marina Piccola one should consider arriving in the morning since in this part of the island the sun goes out in the mid-afternoon, in summer around 5 pm.

Marina Piccola is also the perfect place for a dip in the middle of winter: it is an anchorage protected from the wind, and thanks to its southern exposure you can benefit from a few degrees more than the rest of the island.
