Enclosed in the northern part by the point of the same name,Anse de la Galère is one of the many beautiful bays on Île de Porquerolles in the Hyéres archipelago.
The anchorage is located in the southeastern part of the island, north of the Sèche des Sarraniers. It enjoys good shelter from westerly winds and offers a fair amount of shelter from the mistral wind in the northern part, close to Pointe de la Galère. Being very open in the southeast direction, the bay offers no protection from winds and wave motions from this direction. It is to be considered in any case as a point where to anchor exclusively on good weather days.
On Porquerolles Island, it is generally prohibited for motorized boats to approach with the engine running more than 600 meters from the shore. However, an access corridor has been established in the southern part of the bay to allow motorized boats to approach as well. However, it must be remembered that the maximum allowed speed -exceeding the 600-meter limit- is 12 knots. Once the 300-meter limit from the shore is crossed, the permitted speed limit is lowered to 5 knots.
The limit of boats that can occupy the bay’s body of water at the same time is 10 units
The bay offers a very wild environment, and those who come to these places find themselves surrounded only by rocks and pine forests, in a setting of absolute tranquility.
The only, very small beach is located in the central part of the cove.
It consists of fine gravel, offers no services or amenities, and is far from any commercial activity.
Access for those arriving by land is quite difficult and requires a minimum of sporting aptitude: starting by bicycle from the plage de Notre Dame in the northern part of the island, follow the Piste de la Galère and arrive at the bay in an hour.
Some research begun in the 1980s on the shore of this bay has uncovered remains dating back to a settlement from protohistoric times.
Porquerolles Island is part of the Parc National de Port-Cros and there are many regulations in place to protect the local ecosystem.
TheAnse della Galère area is also popular with scuba divers because of the beauty of its seabed.
