Enclosed between Pointe du Bon Renaud to the west and Pointe Prime to the east, Anse du Bon Renaud is one of the best known and most acclaimed bays on the island of Porquerolles. This bay is one of the very few places on the island that is ridged not only by southerly and southerly winds, but also by the Mistral. However, it is always good to pay attention to any gusts of wind, especially for those who have decided to anchor here to spend the night hours. The seabed in strong winds can lose some of its hold and boats can heel from their position, with a danger of collision with other boats. The bay has a fairly wide beach, the Plage de l’Argent, an expanse of fine and very clear sand, thanks to the considerable percentage of white quartz. It is one of the most popular and frequented beaches on the island: the presence of snack bars, showers, toilets, a first aid station and a security service in the summer period make it suitable for families with small children. In addition, it enjoys an optimal location, just one kilometer east of the ports, and is the only beach on the island to offer its bathers the possibility of renting equipment and inflatable mats. The beach de l’Argent was the first on the island of Porquerolles to be equipped to allow access for people with disabilities.
Access for those coming from the port area is pleasant and fairly short, about a fifteen-minute walk. From the bay du Bon Renaud one can enjoy a magnificent view of the eastern part of the island, the plage de Notre Dame, and the port.
The anchorage is also popular with those who practice scuba diving, due to the variety of the seabed rich in varied flora and fauna. Pointe du Bon Renaud is home to a 19th-century military fortress.
Porquerolles is part of the Parc National de Port Cros, an institution created to protect the precious ecosystem of the Hyรจres islands, and of the Sanctuaire Pelagos, an entity created in cooperation between France, Italy and the Principality of Monaco to safeguard the cetaceans living in the Mediterranean Sea.Anse du Bon Renaud is one of the most sheltered corners of Porquerolles and an ‘excellent base from which to explore the island.
