Located in the northeastern part of Porquerolles, the largest of the islands in the Hyรจres archipelago, the baie de l’Alycastre is a wide inlet in the northeastern part of the island.
The bay, overlooked by the Fort de l’Alycastre and surrounded by lush vegetation and Mediterranean pines, is one of the most picturesque and wild places on the island and is well protected from the east winds.
One of the ideal mooring spots is within the two Criques du Lequin, ravines located at the west end of the bay and to the left of the large beach of Notre Dame, which enjoy the shelter of the Pointe du Lequin.
This area offers shelter from the easterly winds, but does not provide shelter from the mistral wind. There are very few places on Porquerolles Island where one can enjoy true shelter from the mistral. These include theAnse du Bon Renaud.
The fort du Lequin marks the channel of access to the two bays for boaters.
Among the advantages of mooring in these coves is that they are conveniently located for walking, near the ports and the center of the island.
Alternatively, you can also give fonda in front of the plage de Notre Dame, protected from the east winds.
The setting is very pleasant and you can enjoy the pleasant shade provided by the pine forests.
The sand is fine and clear and the area is generally less crowded than the others because it is further from the port area.
Attention must be paid, however, to the fact that the seabed, from the coast to a distance of about 300 meters, remains rather shallow.
The beach is also accessible from the mainland via a series of paths.
The beach de l’Alycastre, located between the inlets du Lequin and the plage de Notre Dame, is also well sheltered from the east winds and enjoys good shade.
Access to the beaches at the northeastern end of Baie de l’Alycastre is difficult and sometimes dangerous, and mooring the surrounding waters is not recommended.
The island of Porquerolles is part-along with that of Port Cros-of the Parc National de Port Cros, an entity created to preserve the incredible diversity of the land and seabed of the islands of the Hyรจres aripelago.
La baie de l’Alycastre is an excellent landing point to enjoy the wild beauty of Porquerolles in a calm and picturesque setting.
