The Baie de Pampelonne is one of the most famous coastlines of the Côte d’Azur.
It stretches south of the Saint Tropez promontory and is bordered to the north by Cap du Pinet and to the south by Pointe de la Bonne Terrasse.
It is part of the European “Natura 2000” network for the protection of ecosystems and the conservation of threatened flora and fauna.
As a result, the Var department has established ten organized mooring areas along the entire maritime area of Pampelonne, with a total number of berths in excess of 200.
The northernmost mooring area is located near the plage de Tahiti, and the southernmost one is near the Anse de la Bonne Terrasse.
With these measures, the local authorities have tried to regulate the large influx of pleasure boats that stop in the bay’s waters, especially during the summer period, which over the years has ended up damaging the posidonia meadows of the seabed, especially in the northern part of the bay.
There is still the possibility of anchoring in the bay outside the organized mooring areas, but the authorities have imposed a ban on anchoring in areas where anchoring could cause damage to the posidonia.
There is a fairly large area in the southern part of the bay-north ofAnse de la Bonne Terrasse-with a sandy bottom suitable for anchoring where it is possible to anchor freely.
In addition, there are another couple of free areas in the northern part of the anchorage, near Tahiti Beach.
There are several beaches in the bay, all with fine sand and discreetly accessible, and they offer beautiful views of Cap du Pinet and the green hills of the Saint Tropez promontory. The Pampelonne shores are also popular with water sports enthusiasts because of the wide variety of services and equipment offered. Bars, restaurants, camping sites and commercial activities can be found near the beach area.
The northernmost beach in the bay is the plage de Tahiti, which offers good alternatives for both free beach seekers and tourists who want to use the services of private beach establishments. It offers showers and toilets, a snack bar and beach facilities, and dogs are allowed if kept on a leash. The beach can also be accessed by land via a path, but there is no parking in the vicinity.
Pampelonne’s beaches, on the other hand, are les Moulins, les Tamaris, Pach, and les Barraques. Les Tamaris houses a first aid station and has an area reserved for nudists.
Pach also offers a first aid station and has an area accessible to people with disabilities. Les Barraques dedicates a portion of the beach to nudists and offers a less sophisticated and more family-friendly environment than the other locations.
The Baie de Pampelonne became famous in the late 1950s, serving as the backdrop for Roger Vadim and Brigitte Bardot’s performance in the film “Et Dieu créa la femme.”
