Description

Bounded to the north by the point of the same name and not far from the Baumette area, the Calanque d’Anthéor is part of the municipal area of Saint Raphaël and is a well-known and popular spot for boaters who sail this stretch of the Côte d’Azur.

The bay enjoys excellent shelter from westerly, northerly, and fair protection from northwesterly winds, making it a good place to anchor and find shelter on days when the mistral blows.

However, the heavy traffic and the great crowding-especially in peak season-make it a anchorage where it is not easy to anchor in peace: in some cases , after admiring its beauty, it may be better to leave the bay and go to seek shelter in one of the smaller and less frequented creeks located a little further south.
In the creek, the limit of approach to the coast of the boats is marked by a row of white buoys.

The charm of this anchorage, however, is certainly worth a visit.
Immediately recognizable to those who approach it due to the presence of the imposing ancient viaduct, the calanque d’Anthéor offers visitors’ eyes magnificent contrasts between the blue of its waters and the dark red of the surrounding mountains and rocks, all surrounded by patches of vegetation and the delicately colored buildings.

The bay is about a couple of kilometers from the Calanque des Anglais and the Baumette area and only 500 meters from the Anthéor-Cap Roux train station, making it a popular tourist destination.

The area is also popular with scuba divers because of the wealth of underwater flora but also because of the possibility of coming across interesting underwater wrecks.

In the northwestern part of the calanque, near the Viaduc d’Anthéor, is the plage de Anthéor, the only sandy beach in the calanque . Its surface area is not very large (it is just over 80 meters long) and is accessible by land from the D559 highway that passes just behind it. There is only one organized parking lot for cars in the area, which can accommodate up to 60 vehicles. Public showers and toilets are located on the beach, and around the bay it is not difficult to find camping sites, hotels, and a few restaurants.

In the southernmost part of Calanque de Anthéor, not far from the viaduct, are other small red rock beaches, less frequented than the large beach to the north.
