The Rada di Barcaggio is not exactly what you would call a place for everyone. First of all, from the context, but mostly because of the type of boats and sailors who take to that stretch of coastline. We are talking about the extreme northern part of Corsica, where the beaches are among the most pristine and the area is beaten mainly by sea and island enthusiasts .

The scenery in which the anchorage manifests itself is simply spectacular. Under a mistral wind, the sea is for experienced sailors’ hands, and landing at the surface has its limits. In fact, this discrete but wide inlet, offers a buoy mooring surface and a very small marina. This marina offered by Barcaggio, provides access to dinghies and outboard boats but little more.

In fact, the structure and space, are inaccessible to large volume vessels, cargo or tourist ships and especially to sails. The latter precisely because they are restricted by the currents that relentlessly beat the stretch of coastline, risking dangerous mooring but especially stopping. A danger, which, however, other boats also run.

In fact, the marina and the entire anchorages, are considered excellent landing spots for the day. Stopping overnight is not recommended unless conditions are very safe. Precisely because of this decidedly touristy aspect, the area is heavily traveled and sees a steady stream of boats stopping the day to visit the wonderful place.

First, the beach, as spectacular as few in the area. A Caribbean look and from the play of light that gives the sea, colors that photos do not do justice. Beach easily reached by swimming. Often, of course, many hikers organize in groups, especially with dinghies, is use the place as a point of ‘diving, thanks to the sandy seabed that does not exceed 5 meters deep.

In addition, once the beach is reached and experienced, one can forward for the small village of Barcaggio, which definitely deserves a dedicated day. The hinterland and the panorama know how to give unforgettable views, which will surely invite boaters, to return for another stop with their boat. Always being careful at the entrance, especially after peak hours, where winds coming from quadrant I and IV, make the sea particularly rough.

The Anchorage of Barcaggio, is thus a corner of paradise in northern Corsica. And like any self-respecting paradise, it is for a select few or those who accept the compromises of the land in order to enjoy its beauty. Certainly, over the years it has not lost its charm, and from the marina to the village, every summer sees enthusiasts populate its days with great enthusiasm.
