Located in the southern part of Saint Jean-Cap Ferrat l’Anse des Fossettes is a bay on the Mediterranean Sea.
The anchorage is part of a single larger bay, divided into Anse Lilong and Anse des Fossettes by a small peninsula.
The bay is mainly exposed to winds from the south and is generally a well-protected area for anchoring boats during the day.
It also provides shelter on days when the Mistral wind blows strong.
However, at night the swell can become quite significant and expose boats to strong rolling.
The seabed-sandy and rocky-is strewn with posidonia and its depth can vary from one to five meters.
The limit of approach to the coast for boats is 300 meters and is marked by a row of buoys. For motor boats, it is also prohibited to approach with engines running more than 200 meters to the west and 100 meters to the east to the entrance of the inlet.
The anchorages to the west are bordered by Pointe du Colomier, which can be reached on foot by a pleasant walk through pine forests along the Promenade des Fossettes.
Walking a little longer, one can wander as far as Pointe de Saint Hospice, a small appendage of the promontory of Saint Jean- Cap Ferrat.
Those who anchor their boat in the anchorage can enjoy fascinating views of pine forests, typical surrounding Mediterranean vegetation, and beautiful period villas with their patches of ivy and bougainvillea color.
Within theAnse des Fossettes , the Saint Jean-Cap Ferrat underwater trail has recently been equipped, a safe, easy and well-marked path with numbered buoys in which to discover the secrets of the seabed.
The trail is part of a program to protect the marine fauna and flora of the French Riviera.
The trail is about 200 meters long and consists of 5 underwater observation stations accompanied by explanatory signs.
The seabed in the pathway area reaches a maximum depth of 3 meters.
The visit is suitable for all snorkeling enthusiasts and takes place by swimming at the surface of the water: therefore, it is sufficient to be equipped with fins, mask and snorkel.
All forms of fishing are prohibited in the area, and the only activity allowed is natation.
The des Fossettes beach is rocky in nature. The most spacious part is on the right, while the presence of pine trees in the left area provides some shade on hot days.
The beach is public and houses a shower and a lifeguard station, linked to underwater trail activities and manned from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The adjacent Anse Lilong, on the other hand, also offers a small concrete dock.
The anchorage is also easily accessible by land, but the difficulty of parking due to the limited availability of parking spaces should be noted.
There are no businesses in the bay, but it is enough to walk for a few minutes to get to the port of Saint Jean-Cap Ferrat where bars, restaurants and food outlets can be found.
L’Anse des Fossettes is a good alternative to the Port of Cap Ferrat during the busy summer months and offers all boaters a safe daytime landing, tranquility, and the pleasure of enjoying its crystal clear sea.
