Le Grazie

The anchorage opens in front of the village of Le Grazie, between Fezzano and Porto Venere, and is an excellent shelter where to drop anchor in the beautiful Gulf of Poetsin Liguria, a short distance from La Spezia.
The bay is quite wide, well protected from wind and wave, and offers excellent shelter from all winds except the Northeast. It gives anchorage in the southern part of the anchorage, below the promontory on which the maritime raiding barracks stands, while the northern part is occupied by the docks of the small marina. The bottom, which ranges from 12 meters to 5/6 meters, is mud and clay: once the anchor has set, it’s a very good keeper.

There are no particular dangers to be reported for either entry or anchorage; you may hear gunfire, but it is part of the raiding corps exercises.
In the event of Grecale winds, it is recommended to change moorings, especially if the anchorage is crowded, and take shelter in Porto Venere, either in the anchorage or marina, Fezzano or La Spezia.

Ashore , services are basic but meet all major needs: garbage collection (going ashore on the left side of the waterfront promenade), bars, restaurants, grocery stores, post office, and a small hardware store. Porto Venere and La Spezia are easily and quickly reached for all other services.

The Roman villa that stands behind the village is unfortunately only visible during very limited hours, but a walk through the village and up to the church above it is still enjoyable. On the quays you can see another piece of history, more recent but no less fascinating. Right in Le Grazie, in fact, you can admire “at rest” several J Classes waiting to participate in one or another of the vintage boat events.
