Cala Francese

Cala Francese is an attractive landing place located west of the island of Maddalena, in the beautiful coastal stretch of Sardinia. This anchorage is characterized by a rocky coastline, characteristic of the western part of the island itself. The area is famous for its incredible views and the sunsets offered, with the unforgettable view of Spargi.

Boats that decide to anchor near this anchorage must take special care, making sure they have experienced hands and navigational skills. In fact, the area is particularly dangerous due to the absence of lighting and signal lights.

In addition, there are many rocks outcropping from the surface of the water, which make it dangerous for boats to approach. With its shallow depth of 3.5 it is particularly difficult for large boats.

Sailing Boats or pleasure boats that decide to land at the French Cove space are obviously at an advantage, especially due to the presence of a dock of military origin that is now disused. Although the dock can accommodate a maximum of 3 or 4 boats with little draft, the latter still need to be careful on mistral days. In fact, such current makes the sea and space navigation very dangerous, with problems in steering small boats.

The whole area is fascinating, but now disused even in its facilities. Admirable is the quarry that was closed after World War II and all the machinery. In fact, there are still cranes, tracks, trolleys and small trains, now worn out. Despite its charm, thelanding place is obviously not beaten for special tourist attractions, and its dangerous seabed does not number it suitable for major bathing activities.

Cala Francese remains a landing place serving the west coast of ‘Maddalena Island. Certainly not the first attraction chosen in a travel itinerary. But experienced boats that decide to moor in its space can still enjoy excellent views and unforgettable sunsets, in a surely unique setting.
