Cala Sisine – Baunei

The anchorage of Cala Sisine is considered by many to be the little pearl of the Gulf of Orosei by virtue of its opening between the spectacular Serra Ovra cliffs that slope steeply down to the sea from a height of over 500 m. The entire cove is lost in the Mediterranean maquis, surrounded by two rock walls that make the place look like a mountain, augmented by the forest on the walls of the gorge with its centuries-old carob and holm oak trees.

The seabed consists of white sand of large grains and stones polished by the sea. This location presents itself as an ideal destination for those who wish to dive in its waters and explore the local fish flora and fauna. The bay is located north of Arbatax, after Capo Monte Santo, between Cala Luna and Cala Biriola, and can be reached from the sea by private boats or by boats that shuttle from the marinas of Cala Gonone and S. Maria Navarrese in just 30 minutes.

By land it can be reached with no small difficulty by following one of the marked hiking trails on foot. The seabed consists of white sand of large limestone grains and stones rounded by the sea. Its waters are iridescent turquoise because of the play of light created by the sun reflected on the seabed. This anchorage therefore presents itself as an ideal destination for those who wish to dive, even if only with a mask and snorkel, in its waters rich in fish.

The nature in this anchorage offers, therefore, a breathtaking spectacle despite the large of tourist trips that arrive, undeservedly, on the beach of a marine protected area. The landscape is undoubtedly very compelling because of the greenery that reaches down to the crystal-clear water sea.

The beach is about 200mt wide and is the mouth of a small winter stream, which in the Sardinian language is called Codula, which derives from the adjacent Golgo plateau mountains. Fortunately it is not a very crowded beach, at least it is less so than the others on the same stretch of coast, and it consists of gravel.

The beach over the years has also lost much of its luster due to the increase in pebbles, both large and small therefore it is best to use proper shoes to take a boardwalk. Cala Sisine has a bar just before you get to the beach where you can have lunch and use the toilets.

Enthusiasts of the place recommend visiting the cove in spring or autumn when the sunshine is still such that they can take advantage of the spectacle of colors on the seabed
