The anchorages of Capo Malfatano are located in one of the most beautiful and evocative areas of southern Sardinia, in the municipality of Teulada in the province of Cagliari. In this part of the island the coastline is very rugged and changeable, alternating rocky headlands overhanging the sea with enchanting coves of white sand.
In the territory of Teulada there are several bays sheltered from the winds including Capo Malfatano, which owes its name to the promontory of the same name. The promontory is overlooked by an ancient Spanish tower, from which there is a spectacular view, and forms a kind of sea basin with a long beach of white sand and amber-colored pebbles.
The stretch of sea between these rocks is uniquely beautiful, transparent, crystal clear, and not particularly cold. The seabed alternates between sand, pebbles and posidonia, and by boat you can enter the bay up to the middle, because after that it is too shallow.
In the background of this fjord are archaeological relics, and the changeability of the pristine sea makes it a true paradise for snorkelers. A short distance from the beach is Tuerredda Island and in the distance the stacks of Capo Spartivento.
The beach of Capo Malfatano is part of a very ancient bay, dating back to the 6th century B.C. and formerly the site of an ancient Punic ports of which it is still possible to admire the remains on the seabed a few meters deep near the coast.
On the western side are the coves of Punta Tonnara, which can also be reached on foot via a dirt road downhill. The anchorage is very sheltered from the winds and the sea is almost always calm; there is a pier that allows you to switch sides and offers hauling for small boats.
The west shore of the beach is occupied by a cafรฉ bar and restaurant offering menus of fresh fish caught on the day. Cape Malfatano is also well known because huge sea groupers can be caught there and it is the site of numerous international fishing championships.
The anchorage is one of the most beautiful in Sardinia; it is located in an area dotted with enchanting views and is therefore very popular with pleasure boaters. The beach is in the middle of the two famous beaches of Tuerredda and Piscinnรฌ and is very popular in summer, partly because it can be reached by land, although the road is rather uncomfortable and unpaved.
