Le Bombarde

Le Bombarde is one of the most beautiful beaches of the Coral Riviera in Alghero in the Province of Sassari, in the northwestern area of Sardinia. In front of the beach opens up an anchorage that is among the busiest on the entire coast, especially during summer weekends because it is in front of two beautiful beaches: le Bombarde and il Lazzaretto.

The inlet in which the Bombarde anchorage is located is protected on the sides by high dark rock cliffs, and the seabed slopes regularly and gently enough to be ideal for swimming for families with children. Behind the strand is a beautiful pine forest, some nuraghi and the Spanish tower of Lazzaretto, erected to protect the coast from raids by Saracen pirates.

The beach is several hundred meters long and is equipped with every amenity, bars, restaurants, bathing establishments, and clubs of all kinds; the area is rather mundane and during weekends it is very busy, so it is certainly not ideal for those seeking tranquility. The same goes for the anchorages, which are almost always crowded with boats during the summer season.

People come there from all corners of Italy in order to admire the seabed and bathe in the crystal-clear waters of the gulf; when the wind blows, it is surfers and wind-surfers who enjoy the water, and when the sea is calm, divers and snorkelers swim throughout the Anchorages.

The rocks that enclose the gulf on the left side reach as far as the town center, and those on the right are slightly higher, but give a glimpse of the outline of the Capo Caccia cliff. South of the anchorage you have to be careful because there is a shoal with rocky outcroppings and in some places seabed does not reach 50 cm depth. Descending further south you enter the Capo Caccia total marine reserve marked by buoys that should not be passed under any circumstances.

To the north is the secca del Rosso, so called by the locals, where there are outcropping rocks that cannot be seen and one must keep at least three hundred meters away from the shore. The only port in the area with all facilities available is Fertilia, a few miles north of the secca del Rosso; the landing place is located at the mouth of a river and there are two boat clubs and a marina.

The Bombarde anchorage is protected from the mistral thanks to Mount Doglia, while it is exposed to the libeccio that blows in winter from the sea forming large waves adored by surfers.
