Rada di Cala Sabina

Cala Sabina, also known as Cala dei Ponzesi, falls within the municipal territory of Porto Torres and is part of the Asinara National Park. This park is a true protected natural area that was established in the 1990s with the aim of preserving the natural beauty and local fauna of the island of Asinara.

The peculiarity that first jumps out at you when you arrive at Cala Sabina is its wonderful colors. The beach consists of fine, very white sand, but following the creation of the National Park it has slowly begun to take on the striking pinkish coloring typical of the famous Budelli beach.

The yellow and red Mediterranean scrub then surrounds the beach, while the rich juniper vegetation creates a large area of shade where one can cool off and rest on hot summer days. Also worth mentioning are the wonderful lilies that grow wild and give a lingering yet delicate aroma that spreads through the air and makes the stay inside the cove even more pleasant.

The beach is not particularly developed in size, the sandy shore being about 300 meters long; the small size, however, does not detract in the least from the beauty of the cove, where its incredibly clear and intensely turquoise waters stand out.

The seabed is sandy and rather shallow: this makes the beach especially suitable for children, since even the youngest children will be able to play freely and without risking accidents.

When deciding to visit Cala Sabina it is good to keep in mind that since it is part of the National Park, there is an absolute ban on boating and anchoring within it. However, since it is considered Zone B and therefore not an area subject to full protection, bathing is permitted. Neighboring coves such as Cala Sant’Andrea and Cala d’Arena, on the other hand, fall within zone A, thus being unapproachable as breeding grounds for protected fauna. This peculiarity causes Cala Sabina to be targeted by tourists and to fill up easily, especially during the summer season.

The interior of the cove lacks any kind of service to the yachtsman. The beach is free and there is a small kiosk offering refreshments.
