Port Xifonio of Augusta, in the province of Syracuse, is located in an inlet between the southern end of Augusta and Punta S. Elia.
Together with Megarese Harbor and the Priolo breast, it is one of the large sections of sea between Punta Izzo and Punta Carcarella.
Composed of a seabed of mud and sand, the anchorage is characterized by an area of shallow water that extends from the coast toward the center of the inlet with a ridge from Cape Santa Croce for winds from quadrants I, III and IV.
Access hours to the marina are continuous and the berthing capacity is 70 berths with a maximum length of 140 meters.
Port Xifonio consists of 2 wooden piers of 70 m with fuel, diesel and mixture facilities for refueling boats.
There are three areas reserved for boating within Port Xifonio:
Club Nautico Augusta (37°14′,44 N;15°14′,06 E), a private club, is an amateur sports association whose seabed consists of rocks and posidonia and has 200 berths with a maximum length of 3.40 meters. To enter, it is advisable to flank and keep in line on the two red buoys placed at the entrance to the marina to mark the area of rocky shoals;
At Giacomo’s wharf (37°14′,38 N;15°13′,49 E), it consists of wooden piers for boating use, and has a sand, rock, and posidonia bottom. There are 100 berths for boats with a maximum length of 12.00 meters and a maximum draft of 1.00 meter. To enter, it is desirable to keep plenty on the west side, due to the presence of rocky shoals in front of the jetty. In addition, in the case of strong winds from the Sirocco or Mezzogiorno, it is recommended to anchor at depths not less than 5 m.
Molo Marina (37°14′,50 N; 15°13′,68 E) consists of small wooden piers for yachting use, has a seabed of rocks and posidonia, and has a capacity of about 150 berths with a maximum length of 7 meters. To moor, it is necessary to keep to the starboard side due to the presence of rocky shoals in front of the jetty.
As for services and equipment in the recreational areas, there is a Q8 fuel, diesel and mixture station on Lungomare Rossini Street, set up for refueling boats and vessels.
Recall that the Port of Augusta (37° 11′,72 N; 15° 14′,07 E), of which Port Xifonio is a part, is not only a commercial, industrial and tourist port, but also an important naval base of the Italian Navy.
