Cala del Pozzarello is an anchorage located on Monte Argentario in the province of Grosseto. It is situated between the heights of the Poggio Pozzarello, Poggio Calvello and Monte Calzolera mountains and boasts one of the most transparent stretches of sea in all of Argentario.
The area originated at the beginning of the last century and developed as a summer residential area from World War II. In recent decades it has expanded considerably with the construction of housing, stores and tourist accommodation facilities.
There are many areas to see ashore, starting with the Pozzarello fort, built in 1874 and the last fortification built on Mount Argentario. Cala del Pozzarello is between Cala la Soda and Cala la Bionda along the northern shores of the promontory.
This anchorage, like most of the Argentario anchorages, is also sheltered from winds and in particular is well protected from those of the II and III quadrants and the summer mistral. The port of Santo Stefano is less than a mile away, and the entire coast is a succession of enchanting coves reachable only by sea.
The seabed is mixed, there are sand, rocks and posidonia. The beach consists of very small pebbles, is very wide and can be reached by tender. In the center of the beach there is a road that leads inland, where about 300 meters away there are stores, including a bakery, a supermarket, and a tobacco bar and newsstand.
There is a restaurant on the beach where you can eat well and be enchanted. The Argentario promontory extends into the Tyrrhenian Sea at the islands of Giglio and Giannutri, the southernmost of the Tuscan Archipelago.
The promontory was once detached from the land, but through the action of sea currents and the Albenga River it created two tombolos that joined the island to the mainland, forming the Orbetello Lagoon. The inland territory is rather impervious and the coast is very indented.
Argentario’s beaches and coves are mainly stony, and the sea around it is a marine protected area, of which the Cetacean Sanctuary, which was established in 1991 and covers about 25500 kmยฒ in the regions of Sardinia, Tuscany and Liguria is also a part.
The Pozzarello cove can also be reached by land via the provincial road that connects it to Porto Santo Stefano, from which it is about 1 km away. Like the entire marine area around the Argentario promontory, there is also quite a lot of traffic near this cove in summer.
There is no shortage of areas by sea and land for unforgettable excursions in terms of scenery and nature.
