The Enfola anchorage is located west of the peninsula of the same name in the northern part of the island of Elba about 7 km from Portoferraio. The anchorage is positioned in front of a beach and is sheltered from all winds because it is located in a small gulf that is also sheltered from currents.
The closer you get to the beach, the more sheltered the boat will be from everything, although the area is quite busy in summer. It is possible to moor at a small concrete pier at the southern side of the beach and use the bar and restaurant services of the small lido.
The Enfola Peninsula is a strip of land that connects Mount Enfola (135 meters high) with the sea and gives rise to two beaches. The north-facing beach is the least hospitable and consists of a concrete yard that is used to pull boats dry. The south-facing beach faces the Viticcio Gulf and offers a beautiful view of the entire coast of Elba Island.
The northern beach is sheltered and cozy, formed by medium-fine cobblestones about 180 meters long. The water is crystal clear and there is a jetty in the center that is used for diving or mooring boats. The stretch of sea in front of the small gulf is very popular because of the clear water and the possibility of mooring comfortably sheltered from sea and land currents.
Snorkeling enthusiasts are sure to find an ideal environment in this area. About eight hundred meters from the beach is a cave that can be reached from a cove at water level.
Until the 1950s, the sea around the Enfola isthmus of land was used for tuna fishing and processing; currently the whole area is part of the Tuscan Archipelago National Park and has been restored preserving the old equipment. On the upper part of the promontory there are bunkers, ammunition depots and military lookouts dating back to World War II.
The beach is quite busy, because in addition to being reached by sea, it can also be reached by land and is equipped with every convenience. Deck chairs, umbrellas, and sunbeds can be rented, and there are many facilities, such as public baths, bars, restaurants, and stores that are nearby. A boat hauling service is available and there are sailing, diving and diving center schools.
From the Enfola anchorage, one can skirt the island of Elba and anchor in the many coves within easy reach of each other: Biodola, Procchio, Marciana Marina, until reaching Cape Sant’Andrea to drop anchorage in the anchorage of the same name.
