Rada di Marina di Campo

Although it has no services, Marina di Campo ‘s anchorage is a favorite stopping point for those sailing to the east coast of Corsica. For boaters arriving from the east, Marina di Campo is invisible until one arrives at the harbor entrance. However, the place is easily recognizable due to the presence of Mount Poro.

To approach the anchorage, it is important to pay attention to the many rocks jutting out from the island’s southern coast, the so-called Mount Tambone Reef. The entrance to the marina is well marked by a red light, placed on a pylon.

The port is very small in size and provides modest shelter from the Sirocco winds, which create a strong undertow and make mooring difficult when they blow too hard. A small pier is designated for fishing, and many berths appear to be reserved for fishermen and law enforcement.

This makes few moorings available to ordinary boaters, which is why the best choice is perhaps to decide to stay in the anchorage. The dock is raised only a few meters above the water’s surface, about two, consequently making it very uncomfortable to stay. Facilities are almost nonexistent. The seabed, which is uniform and sandy, is good tenor both within the ports and at anchorages.

Pay special attention to winds from the southeast, as the anchorage is open to them. The night breeze, coming from the southwest, is often fresh and sustained. Keep in mind that moving toward the center of the bay, the night undertow increases in intensity.

The beach surrounding the anchorages is beautiful and enchanting. The beach of Marina di Campo is in fact the longest on the entire island: it stretches for almost 2 kilometers and is characterized by wonderful white sand of granite origin. Along the immense beach there are numerous bathing establishments to choose from; however, there is no shortage of beach areas left free, available to tourists free of charge.

The beach at Marina di Campo is also perfect for younger children, since entry into the sea is facilitated by the presence of some areas where the water is particularly shallow. For the more sporty there is the possibility of renting canoes, windsurfs and kayaks. At the Sea Club there is a sailing school, open since 1974 and located on the west side of the beach, in the direction of the port.

Planes fly low: in fact, the only airport on the island is located near the village. The town center is located behind the beach and is full of bars, restaurants, clubs and stores. Marina di Campo has a reputation as a worldly place; therefore, there is no shortage of trendy clubs and a discotheque, which can also be reached on foot, via a very pleasant walk along the beach.

Marina di Campo is a lovely place but also very crowded, especially in summer. The anchorage gets crowded with a large number of boats but the bottom is perfectly even and has a uniform slope, making it easy to anchor in almost any area of the anchorage (taking care to avoid private buoys).

Very close to Marina di Campo is Lacona, another enchanting beach with crystal clear sea. A little further inland, inside the Stella Gulf, lies Margidore: a renowned place chosen by a large number of tourists, there is no shortage of campsites and the opportunity to try your hand at guided diving, snorkeling and diving courses.
