Clipper Race , equipaggio bloccato in quarantena nelle Filippine 

clipper race match 7Di fronte al Coronavirus anche la Clipper Race è costretta ad alzare bandiera bianca. L’edizione 2019-2020, infatti, è stata interrotta e rinviata con effetto immediato a causa dell’impatto devastante che la diffusione pandemica del Covid-19 sta provocando anche sulle competizioni sportive internazionali e, più in generale, sui viaggi in tutto il mondo.

Una decisione, quella dell’interruzione della più grande crociera oceanica a tappe, presa non certo a cuor leggero da parte degli organizzatori. L’equipaggio si trova attualmente in quarantena a Subic Bay, sull’isola di Luzon nelle Filippine, dove il team di Clipper Race è ormeggiato dal 15 marzo.

Sospesa la rotta su Seattle in un clima di grande incertezza

clip race on boardLe 11 barche che compongono la flotta avrebbero iniziato la loro traversata dell’Oceano Pacifico del Nord il 21 marzo, facendo rotta su Seattle ma, poiché negli Stati Uniti d’America è stato dichiarato lo stato d’emergenza nazionale con conseguenti e rigorose restrizioni sugli spostamenti, le squadre non possono partire senza una destinazione praticabile.

C’è un clima di grandissima incertezza in merito agli sviluppi della situazione globale anche nei prossimi mesi, ecco perché sospendere la gara è stata una scelta obbligata nonché la soluzione più sicura per tutte le persone coinvolte nella regata.

La priorità di Clipper Race, non appena la quarantena nelle Filippine sarà stata revocata, sarà poi quella di assistere l’equipaggio durante il ritorno dalle Filippine e accertarsi che il rientro si svolga il più rapidamente possibile.

Al momento, sono oltre cento le persone bloccate a Subic Way. Per arrivare alla conclusione della regata mancano ancora tre tappe, che saranno riprese molto probabilmente a partire da gennaio 2021. Con questo slittamento di date, la prossima edizione completa della Clipper Round the World Race inizierà molto probabilmente nell’estate 2022.
