Da luglio scorso il sud dell’Australia รจ avvolto dalle fiamme
Gli incendi in Australia hanno ormai eroso ormai piรน di 8 milioni di ettari di territorio tra New South Wales, Victoria, Sud Australia e Queensland, un’estensione equivalente ai quattro quinti di tutte le foreste italiane.
Cittร come ad esempio Balmoral, a sudovest di Sydney, sono state interamente distrutte dagli incendi. Non lontano dalla famosa metropoli, le fiamme hanno distrutto foreste ed intere aree boschive, tra cui parchi nazionali e zone protette come le Blue Mountains, che ospitavano rare specie di animali e vegetali.
Incendi in Australia: cos’รจ successo
Ogni anno, durante la stagione calda, in Australia si verificano incendi piรน o meno gravi che nel giro di qualche settimana erodono le foreste secche e la vegetazione bush. Nel 2019 perรฒ, si รจ verificata una grave anomalia in seguito a differenti cause, prima fra tutte la temperatura in Australia che ha visto aumentare la sua media di 1,5 gradi.
In Australia le stagioni sono opposte rispetto a quelle dell’emisfero settentrionale, e settembre, il mese in cui comincia la prima vera, si scatenano gli incendi stagionali, nelle foreste di ecualipto e del bush.ย Quest’anno perรฒ, il fuoco non sembra intenzionato ad arretrare e ha invaso anche gli ambienti piรน umidi e le foreste che solitamente non aggredisce, mettendo a rischio la vita di animali e persone, arrivando a minacciare la grande biodiversitร del continente.
Il sud dell’Australia continua cosรฌ a bruciare, mentre le cittร a rischio vengono evacuate con anticipo per permette agli abitanti di mettersi in salvo. Fa quindi scalpore ciรฒ che รจ accaduto a Mallacoota.
A Mallacoota, cittadina di poco di mille abitanti dello stato del Victoria, l’ordine di evacuazione non รจ mai arrivato. Al sopraggiungere delle fiamme, gli abitanti hanno dato il via ad un fuggi fuggi verso l’oceano e le rive piรน vicine contornate da un celo rosso fuoco. Con la strada principale nel caos, molte persone hanno abbandonato la propria auto e sono corse verso la riva a piedi.
Salvataggio a bordo dell’HMAS Choules
Gli abitanti di Mallacoota si sono ritrovati in massa sulla spiaggia, chi in barca e chi sul bagnasciuga con l’oceano alle spalle e l’incendio a poca distanza dalla riva.
Per ricomporre la situazione รจ stato necessario l’intervento della Marina, che arrivata in soccorso degli abitanti a bordo della HMAS Choules, nave da sbarco di 176 metri di lunghezza e 16.000 tonnellate di peso.
Come si puรฒ vedere nel video, gli abitanti vengono rassicurati dalla Marina Australiana e, come spiega un rappresentate, dopo una breve attesa traghettati all’interno dell’HMAS Choules:
“Al momento non abbiamo mezzi di sbarco disponibili, li stiamo utilizzando per traghettare altre persone a bordo dell’HMAS Choules. Non appena saranno disponibili vi porteremo nella zona d’imbarco. Non posso ancora darci istruzioni fintato che i mezzi di trasporto non arrivano. Ma รจ semplice. Una colta che sarete a bordo sarete al sicuro, faremo un conteggio finale degli imbarcati che durerร 10-15 minuti. Una volta a bordo, vi verranno forniti cibo, acqua e delle sistemazioni.”
