L’inquinamento da plastica degli oceani ha raggiunto livelli mai visti e di una pericolositร assoluta per tutte le specie viventi. Ogni anno sono piรน di 8 milioni le tonnellate di plastica che finiscono in mare. Solo l’industria cosmetica รจ responsabile della dispersione in acqua di 51.000 miliardi di particelle di microplastica, ossia quei microgranuli presenti nei dentifrici e in alcuni prodotti di cosmesi che per le loro minuscole dimensioni sfuggono ai sistemi di depurazione.
Ormai l’80% di tutti i rifiuti negli oceani รจ di origine plastica e causa 8 miliardi ย di dollari di danni agli ecosistemi marini. Continuando di questo passo, secondo le stime dell’agenzia Onu che si occupa di ambiente,ย United Nations environment programme (Unep), entro il 2050 negli oceani ci sarร piรน plastica che pesce e il 99% degli uccelli marini avranno ingerito plastica.
Uno scenario catastrofico che ha ripercussioni dirette sulla vita dell’uomo, visto che tutta questa plastica, risalendo la catena alimentare, raggiunge i nostri pasti.
Un’emergenza ambientale che ha spinto l’Unep ha lanciare la campagna CleanSeas. L’iniziativa รจ partita dall’Indonesia dove a Bali รจ in corso l’ Economist World Ocean Summit. Si tratta di una campagna mondiale con la quale l’agenzia Onu “Chiede ai governi di adottare delle misure di riduzione della plastica, interpella le industrie perchรฉ minimizzino gli imballaggi plastici e ripensino il design dei prodotti e invita i consumatori a cambiare le loro abitudini usa e getta, prima che i nostri oceani ne siano danneggiati in maniera irreversibile”.
Il problema รจ l’efficacia di queste campagne che in definitiva hanno un obiettivo di sensibilizzazione ma, come รจ ovvio che sia, non vincolano nessun Governo ad azioni concrete. Per il momento hanno aderito solo 10 Paesiย (Belgio, Costa Rica, Francia, Grenada, Indonesia, Norvegia, Panama, Saint Lucia, Sierra Leone e Uruguay) ognuno dei quali, attraverso i propri rappresentanti alla conferenza di Bali, si รจ impegnato a eliminare lo sversamento di plastiche in mare.
L’Indonesia ad esempio si รจ impegnata a ridurre la presenza di rifiuti plastici nell’oceano del 70% entro il 2025, mentre ilย ministro dellโecologia, sviluppo sostenibile ed energia francese, Sรฉgolรจne Royal, ha dichiarato: ยซSono felice di annunciare che ho firmato una accordo per sostenere finanziariamente questa Agenzia per lottare contro questa minaccia mondiale nel quadro di una coalizione internazionale contro i sacchetti di plastica e lโinquinamento da plasticaยป.
In cosa si tradurrร ย concretamente questa soddisfazione lo vedremo nei prossimi mesi quando, si spera, altri Paesi aderiranno alla campagna mondiale. ย Quello che รจ certo รจ che il processo di inquinamento va bloccato subito. Sempre secondoย lโUnep: ยซOggi, produciamo 20 volte piรน plastica che negli anni โ60. Circa un terzo di tutte le plastiche รจ utilizzata negli imballaggi. Entro il 2050, la nostra produzione di plastica sarร aumentata da tre a 4 volte per poter rispondere alla nostra richiesta. Una parte importante di questa produzione finirร negli oceani dove rimarrร per secoliยป.
