Dal 26 al 28 maggio 2017, il Marina di Varazze diventa la capitale mediterranea della grande vela. Lโultimo fine settimana di maggio i sei team delle M32 Mediterranean Series si sfideranno nelle acque liguri per il secondo appuntamento della stagione.
Organizzato in collaborazione da Sailing Series by B.PLAN Sport & Events con il supporto logistico di Varazze Club Nautico e la sponsorship di: Raymarine, Wave Channel e Sea Storm. Questo secondo appuntamento riservato ai velocissimi catamarani Marstrom 32 ci dirร se lโItalia Sailing Team capitanato da Riccardo Simoneschi rimarrร a guidare la classifica del campionato mediterraneo riservato alla classe.
Lโequipaggio italiano puรฒ contare su Lorenzo โRufoโ Bressani, uomo di pozzetto della prolifica scuola triestina, che da qualche anno ha deciso di dedicare la gran parte della sua attivitร professionale alla navigazione sui multiscafi, seguendo anche al campagna olimpica con il catamarano Nacra 2017.
A rendere le cose difficili ai nostri portacolori ci penseranno gli altri cinque pretendenti al titolo delle European Summer M32. A partire dal secondo team italiano, il piรน giovane del gruppo, Vitamina Veloce di Andrea Lacorte, che ha debuttato proprio a Monte Carlo allโinizio di aprile con un terzo posto finale. Candidato alle posizioni di testa anche lโequipaggio monegasco di Team Neverland, armato e timonato da Guido Miani e con un team tutto tricolore. Da tenere dโocchio anche i due equipaggi svedesi, che hanno scelto le calde acque del mediterraneo per prepararsi alle Series scandinave: Cape Crow Vikings, del terzetto Hรฅkan Svensson, Patrik Sturesson e Lovisa Karlsson; e Flux di Johnnie Berntsson. Pronti a fare il loro gioco per risalire la classifica anche i due equipaggi che provengano da Paesi di montagna: gli austriaci del Candidate Sailing Team, guidati da Max Stelzl e Stefan Scharnagl; e gli svizzeri di Section 16, armato da Richard Davies.
Il programma di regata prevede tre pomeriggi di prove veloci e tiratissime, con la caratteristica di essere organizzate vicino a terra per dare la possibilitร al pubblico di osservare agevolmente gli incroci tra questi catamarani. Ogni giorno sono previste otto regate, nella formula stadium race. Il percorso ricalca quello utilizzato nellโAmericaโs Cup: un bastone con partenza al traverso. Ogni regata dura tra i 15 e i 20 minuti e grazie alle velocitร e le accelerazioni di questi bolidi riesce a regalare emozioni a terra e in mare. Specialmente per chi riesce a prenotarsi un Hot Seat per godersi la regata da bordo.
I Marstrom 32, abbreviato in M32, sono catamarani di 10 metri di lunghezza con un equipaggio di quattro o cinque persone. Costruiti totalmente in fibra di carbonio, contengono il peso dellโintera barca in 510 kg, condizione che consente accelerazioni brucianti e velocitร di punta superiori ai 30 nodi. Molto diffusi anche in America e, come si accennava precedentemente, in Scandinavia possono contare su una flotta di circa 70 barche.
