Nuovo arrivato nella serie Apex, il Mercury Racing 200 APX รจ un 4 tempi V6 studiato per la F2 e per imbarcazioni con carene a tunnel della OPC (Outboard Performance Class).
Ufficialmente presentato il 19 aprile a Fond du Lac nel Wisconsin, il Mercury Racing 200 APX affianca il 360 APX nella serie Apex di motori da competizione. Caratterizzato da una testata molto resistente implementa le ultime tecnologie sui motori a 4 tempi: con una potenza che supera i 200 HP vanta un abbattimento delle emissioni del 50% rispetto alla serie Optimax e addirittura del 90% rispetto all’SST 120. “Il nuovo 200 APX รจ progettato per fornire prestazioni eccezionali riducendo i costi di manutenzione e carburante per i team di gara”, ha affermato Stuart Halley, direttore generale di Mercury Racing. “Mercury Racing si impegna inoltre a produrre motori ad alte prestazioni e da competizione che riducano al minimo le emissioni e il 200 APX aiuta a portare avanti questo sforzo”.
Su entrambi i circuiti UIM F2 e APBA OPC, i piloti corrono utilizzando barche a tunnel in fibra di carbonio lunghe meno di 5 metri e con un peso di 510 kg, tutto incluso. Le barche del circuito europeo F2 raggiungono velocitร di punta di oltre 105 nodi con una accelerazione esplosiva: da zero a 50 nodi in meno di 5 secondi. Il Mercury Racing 200 APX รจ basato sul blocco motore da 3,4 litri a doppia camma in testa e quattro valvole per ognuno dei 6 cilindri a V con angolo di 64ยฐ (lo stesso di suo fratello 360 APX V8). Il suo rapporto di compressione รจ stato inoltre incrementato fino a 11:1, cosรฌ come il regime massimo portato da 5800 a 6800 giri. I circuiti delle competizioni internazionali utilizzano motori a 8.000 rpm all’elica: per raggiungere tale regime รจ stato aggiunto un ingranaggio cilindrico overdrive che incrementa la velocitร dell’albero di ingresso alla scatola degli ingranaggi. “Il 200 APX produce circa il 20% in piรน di coppia rispetto al motore a due tempi, ma ad un numero di giri inferiore”, afferma Jeff Broman, direttore tecnico di Mercury Racing.
“Con il set di ingranaggi overdrive possiamo scambiare parte di quella coppia per aumentare il regime dell’elica, il che consente alla maggior parte dei team l’opportunitร di utilizzare le stesse eliche che hanno montato sul motore a due tempi: un grande risparmio sui costi per i team di gara”. L’alloggiamento dell’albero di trasmissione รจ di tipo a carter umido strutturale, mentre power trim e sollevamento del motore sono azionati da pompe remote. Il raffreddamento ad aria รจ affidato ad un circuito forzato creato dalla nuova calandra in carbonio, leggerissima e studiata con cura, analogamente il volano รจ stato alleggerito per permettere al motore regimi piรน elevati rispetto ai motori di serie. Questo motore necessita di benzina a 91 ottani e vuole l’uso del nuovo olio appositamente sviluppato Mercury Racing 10W-30 MRX, il sistema di regolazione del gas รจ ovviamente digitale, mentre gli scarichi sono in aria (il suo rumore รจ una musica per gli appassionati).
Il Mercury Racing 200 APX รจ dotato di un nuovo cambio di tipo a trasmissione diretta senza folle e retromarcia, derivato dal Super Speed Master IV Ssm; il sistema di avviamento รจ a 24 Volt. Sarร posto in commercio e disponibile a maggio 2021, ma solo per i team corse qualificati.
