Accessorio per la sicurezza la cui presenza a bordo รจ sempre piรน imprescindibile, il NAIS 500 appartiene alla categoria dei transponder AIS ( Automatic Identification System ), apparecchiature in grado di ricevere, ed inviare, una serie di dati fondamentali per la navigazione.
Obbligatori sulle navi commerciali, sulle navi passeggeri, e sulle imbarcazioni da lavoro ( nel caso dei pescherecci giร a partire dai 15 metri ), i transponder AIS, operano grazie ad un sistema di trasmissione VHF digitale, e ad uno di posizionamento integrato. In questo modo possono inviare alle altre unitร presenti in zona, ad intervalli di pochi secondi e senza soluzione di continuitร , una serie di dati sulle proprie condizioni di navigazione, ricevendo in contemporanea da queste, le stesse informazioni.
Chi naviga di notte, magari a vela, sa perfettamente con quanta attenzione si seguono i transiti delle navi intorno. E anche chi รจ dotato di radar non sempre ( condizioni atmosferiche avverse, ecc ) ha una percezione chiara delle velocitร di avvicinamento, o della direzione dei bersagli. Con il solo limite della portata VHF, il sistema AIS fornisce invece i dati esatti relativi alla rotta vera e alla velocitร rilevate dal gps integrato al transponder, ma anche, a seconda del software che traduce i suoi segnali, i dati relativi alla distanza tra noi e la nave, al pericolo di collisione, o alla distanza minima cui passerร la nave mantenendo la rotta e la velocitร trasmesse. Conosceremo inoltre il suo nome, il numero MMSI, e una serie di dati aggiuntivi. La sovrapposizione grafica dei bersagli sul display del chartplotter di bordo, permette immediatamente di avere un quadro completo del traffico intorno e, soprattutto, consente agli altri, se dotati dello stesso sistema AIS, di โvedereโ noi con una efficienza molto superiore di quella permessa dal solo riflettore radar.
Il NAIS 500 รจ compatto, leggero ( meno di 250g ), e dotato di uno chassis totalmente impermeabile, e in grado di assorbire le condizioni meteo-marine piรน dure. Con una tensione di alimentazione di 12V, per la trasmissione continua del segnale digitale assorbe solo 180 mA: un basso consumo che lo rende particolarmente adatto ad ogni unitร da diporto, imbarcazioni a vela comprese. Il numero di connessioni presenti garantisce poi una completa compatibilitร con i chartplotter multifunzione dei tre brand. In particolare, per Simrad, con la serie NSS, NSO, GO e i sistemi RS VHF, per Lowrance con la serie HDS Carbon e HDS Gen3, e per B&G con gli Zeus3 e con la serie Vulcan. Lโadesione ai protocolli NMEA 2000, NMEA 0183, NMEA 0183 multiplexing, e USB, ne completano la totale fruibilitร , sia con altri sistemi, sia con un eventuale computer di bordo. Il costo, a seconda della configurazione, si aggira sui mille euro iva compresa, sicuramente inferiore a quello di qualsiasi altro sistema elettronico accessorio alle pur sempre obbligatorie guardie in coperta con il fedele binocolo.
