Nuovo record atlantico ARC per Team Brunel

8 giorni, 7 ore, 39 minuti e 30 secondi รจ il nuovo record di traversata ARC, stabilito poche ore fa da Team Brunel, la barca Volvo Ocean Race di nazionalitร  olandese, partita con tutto il resto dei naviganti il 22 novembre da Las Palmas di Gran Canaria e arrivata a Rodney Bay, Santa Lucia, ieri pomeriggio alle 16.24 (ora locale).

Per il terzo anno consecutivo il record viene battuto: nel 2014 il maxi Farr 100 Leopard by Finland aveva migliorato di oltre 2 giorni il record stabilito nel 2013 da Caro, un Knierim 65. La traversata di Tem Brunel รจ stata praticamente perfetta, con una media di 13,5 nodi e picchi di oltre 25 nodi in surfata sulle onde per coprire una distanza di 3.342 miglia (piรน lunga di quelle coperte dai precedenti vincitori). Le condizioni di vento sono state ottimali grazie alla forte alta pressione posizionata nel nord atlantico che ha garantito un bell’aliseo da nord-est. In equipaggio cinque velisti professionisti e dieci esperti amatori che senza dubbio hanno fatto un’esperienza grandiosa.

Una traversata quasi perfetta, dicevamo, ma che ha avuto momenti di tensione quando in una strambata la randa di Team Brunel si รจ aperta (ovviamente di notte… queste cose succedono sempre di notte…) e ha richiesto l’impegno di tutti per una riparazione volante.

Ad attendere i vincitori a Rodney Bay c’erano giร  18 barche dell’ARC+ (la rotta con passaggio da Capoverde), oltre ad un rum punch ghiacciato… E i prossimi a festeggiare speriamo saranno gli italiani di Durlindana 3, che per ora sono secondi di categoria, ETA giovedรฌ 3 dicembre alle 20 ora locale. Le altre barche in gara sono rallentate dalle condizioni di vento, un po’ calato negli ultimi giorni, e se la spasseranno ancora per un po’ in mezzo all’oceano.
