Nella prima metร di questo 2020 che si รจ appena concluso, quando mezzo mondo รจ stato rinchiuso in casa per lโemergenza pandemica, la natura si รจ in parte riappropriata del suo posto centrale sulla Terra. Per il mare, invece, il discorso si fa piรน lungo e complesso, tanto che ci vorranno trentโanni prima che le acque del mondo tornino al loro antico splendore.
Lo sostiene il Marine Stewardship Council che, nella ricerca Rebuilding Marin Life, pubblicata sulla rivista Nature e ripresa da The Guardian, rivela che gli oceani saranno nuovamente in salute nel 2050. Ma perchรฉ ciรฒ avvenga รจ necessario modificare lโattivitร ittica.
Dopo vari studi condotti sullo stato di conservazione dellโhabitat marino, un team di scienziati guidati dal professor Carlos M. Duarte della King Abdullah University of Science and Technology in Arabia Saudita, hanno asserito che lโecosistema degli oceani potrร tornare in salute se verranno attuate adeguate misure contro il cambiamento climatico, inquinamento e la pesca eccessiva, sottolineando lโassoluta importanza che detiene un approvvigionamento ittico sostenibile.
Contro una pratica smodata dellโattivitร ittica
La pratica smodata dellโattivitร di pesca รจ tra le problematiche piรน gravi che minano la salute degli oceani e la correzione di questo comportamento irresponsabile da parte dellโuomo rientra tra gli Obiettivi per lo Sviluppo Sostenibile delle Nazioni Unite, da raggiungere entro il 2030.
La soluzione รจ quella proposta dal Marine Stewardship Council, organizzazione internazionale non profit responsabile del piรน importante programma globale di certificazione di sostenibilitร ittica, che premia le pratiche di pesca sostenibili e incentiva le aziende e i retailers ad approvvigionarsi attraverso la pesca sostenibile.
Il programma di certificazione MSC si basa su tre principi fondamentali:
Stock ittici sostenibili – La pesca deve lasciare in mare abbastanza risorse per far sรฌ che lo stock possa riprodursi e lโattivitร di pesca possa cosรฌ proseguire nel tempo.
Riduzione al minimo dellโimpatto ambientale – La pesca devโessere effettuata in modo da minimizzare il suo impatto, consentendo a piante e animali marini di prosperare.
Efficace gestione della pesca – La pesca devโessere gestita dalle aziende in modo responsabile e nel rispetto delle leggi vigenti.
Per ottenere la certificazione, le aziende di pesca nominano un ente accreditato, indipendente ed esterno, che valuta la loro attivitร in relazione agli standard MSC. L’iter prevede una pre-valutazione, una valutazione completa e un controllo annuale.
In sede di valutazione, l’ente utilizza i requisiti di certificazione MSC, che definiscono il processo e la metodologia per certificare lโazienda di pesca. Questi requisiti assicurano che lo standard sia applicato in modo paritario alle attivitร di pesca in tutto il mondo, indipendentemente dalle specie, dal metodo di pesca, dall’ambiente e dalle dimensioni.
Pesca sostenibile e impatto sul mercato
La salute degli oceani, sempre secondo lโindagine MSC, ha una grandissima rilevanza anche di carattere economico.
Ricostituire gli stock ittici su scala globale, infatti, aumenterebbe del 15% la resa della pesca, che si tradurrร in 53 miliardi di dollariย di profitti per l’industria globale ittica.
โPescare responsabilmente, riducendo lโimpatto e tutelando gli ecosistemi, รจ la chiave necessaria per raggiungere tali obiettivi“, ha spiegato Ilaria Vielmini, Fishery, manager di MSC Italia.
“Abbiamo osservato un trend positivo per quelle risorse ittiche la cui pesca รจ gestita in modo responsabile – ha sottolineato Ilaria Vielmini – ร evidente che le attivitร di pesca, che hanno efficaci strategie di cattura e stock monitorati scientificamente, hanno una miglior prospettiva di recuperoโ. La strada รจ quella giusta, ma da qui al 2050 รจ ancora lunga.
