A boat landing and port facility for the municipality of Maratea, located on the western slopes of Mount San Biagio, the Maratea marina includes two large piers, bent at an acute angle toward the coast.
The name Porto has been present in Maratea since at least the XXVIII century, a period in which there was no port structure, only a landing place, moreover unsafe for any boat in the winter season. In 1962 the first lot for the construction of the modern port was completed. In 1987 it suffered very serious damage from a tidal wave.
The first Italian port to be captained by a woman, today it is a renowned tourist port in the Gulf of Policastro. A point of arrival and point of departure for numerous boats, in any case a staple for all those who love to fully experience the sea. The tourist port of Maratea was created precisely to transform what is usually a simple parking lot for boats into a kind of exclusive “port-park” in terms of comfort and relaxation. One only has to look around the bay to feel how much architecture and landscape are in harmony with each other. A new way of experiencing the sea for those who love its scent and colors without giving up, however, the pleasure of feeling truly at home.
Beyond the boats in recent years, the port of Maratea has gradually acquired a strong tourist attraction, especially because of its scenic location and the charm of the draw of its frequent visitors. Clubs and restaurants enliven the evenings, contributing to making it the most elegant and frequented place of “movida” in the entire Gulf of Policastro.
The original design of the harbor included one large pier (the northern one) and another very small one separating the harbor area from a bathing lido. In the 1970s it was enlarged with a new pier that completely enclosed the lido and enlarged the capacity for the current boat landing.
