Porto di Palinuro

Port of Palinuro

Within the northern inlet of Cape Palinuro lies the port of Palinuro, a small private tourist landing .

The landing-artificial in nature- consists of an approximately 200-meter-long docked shore, equipped with a rather small (100-meter) breakwater for fishing boats.

The seaport sees significant boating activity in its area and also a fair amount of fishing traffic.
The port of Palinuro offers mooring rings at the quay for boats of a certain size, an area delimited by buoys forbuoy mooring within the basin, and mooring and unmooring assistance.

Floating mobile docks are provided for those mooring at the buoy to enable loading and unloading. Electricity distribution stations can be found along the port’s quay, however.
The ports of call also offers other services such as Wi-Fi connection, security, engine and electrical repairs, and weather information.

Palinuro is the largest hamlet in the municipality of Centola (province of Salerno), an integral part of the Cilento and Vallo di Diano National Park, one of the most beautiful nature areas in Italy and the second largest park in the country.

Legend has it that the locality takes its name from Palinurus, the mythological helmsman of Aeneas, who died on these beaches.
History, on the other hand, derives this name from the Greek words “palin” (contrary direction) and “oùros” (winds), alluding to the strong winds that sweep the promontory.

Palinuro is characterized as a popular seaside resort in the summertime, attracting many tourists due to the charm of its landscapes, natural wonders, clear beaches and crystal clear sea.

The port of Palinuro is certainly a good starting point for visiting the many caves and coves that surround Cape Palinuro and for reaching the beach of Buon Dormire, an evocative and unspoiled place accessible only by sea.

Palinuro is also a strategic starting point for hiking enthusiasts: by renting a car, it is possible to quickly reach the hinterland of the Cilento and Vallo di Diano National Park and set off to discover its itineraries, following paths poised between land and sea.

September 2014 saw the start of the Palinuresi regattas entitled “Le vele di Molpè,” regattas that are part of a larger sailing circuit, the Costiera del Cilento,” involving four other surrounding localities-Acciaroli, Casalvelino, Pisciotta and Sapri.

The port of Palinuro is a valid port of call for your boats and the ideal starting point for exploring a corner of paradise that is sure to enrapture your heart.
