The port of Sant’Angelo is located in the village of the same name within the municipality of Serrara Fontana, on the southern coast of the island of Ischia.
The landing enjoys the shelter afforded by two breakwaters reefs, one breakwater and one breakwater, which shelter it from westerly winds.
There is a 110-meter long quay equipped with bollards for mooring, flanked in parallel by a main pier about 50 meters long.
Two more floating docks are set up in the summer period, in the central part of the harbor and parallel to the shoreline.
The docks are managed by a couple of different private mooring cooperatives, while the dock, located behind the breakwater reef, is under municipal management.
The port is nestled at the foot of the promontory of Sant’Angelo (called “The Tower”), connected to the rest of the island only by an isthmus of land. The islet also offers natural protection from westerly winds.
The port of call offers various services, including a cab boat service, medical assistance and the resale of groceries.
In the area of Sant’Angelo you can find numerous bars, restaurants, stores (including luxury stores) and hotels.
In the nearby small square of Cava Grado (a charming sandy beach surrounded by Mediterranean scrub) there is a bus station.
From here it is possible to reach the other towns of Barano, Lacco Ameno, Casamicciola, Forio and the island’s main port area.
The village of Sant’Angelo is one of the few hillside places on Ischia, as well as one of the most accorsed places on the entire island.
For this reason, in summer it can prove difficult to find a berth within the landing place.
In this case, it is possible to give anchorage in the immediately outside the port area and inside Maronti Bay.
The port of Sant’Angelo overlooks right into Maronti Bay, which, in addition to being a great place to give anchorage, also offers a charming beach, about three kilometers long, where it is possible to find one of the most famous thermal springs on the island, that of Cava Scura.
The world-renowned hot springs are undoubtedly another of Ischia’s great attractions.
From mud baths to stoves via regenerating thermo-mineral baths, the list is long.
Near the Sant’Angelo landing, separated from the harbor area only by Punta Sant’Angelo, is Sorgeto Bay.
Accessible by sea or via a steep, long flight of steps, the bay offers natural “pools” and incredibly warm water year-round.
Those who find themselves landing in Ischia cannot fail to visit the Aragonese Castle, built on an ‘ancient Greek fortress and wanted by Alfonso V of Aragon, and theMortella, the gardens from which it is possible to enjoy a beautiful view of Forio.
