The Calanque de Port Miou lies immediately to the left of the town of Cassis and its ports and is considered by boaters passing through the area to be a good alternative to the summer crowding of the nearby eastern landing.
An excellent naturally sheltered landing place, in recent years the cove has been equipped with wooden walkways and buoys to organize the stay of the many boats that pass through the area year-round, particularly during the summer period. Wild mooring was in fact damaging the surrounding environment.
Boats that stop in the outermost area of the cove can moor at the many buoys there. Boat passengers who wish to moor in the innermost part of the cove, on the other hand, can take advantage of the presence of the concrete piers and docks to moor and disembark on land.
Management of the mooring area was entrusted for some time to two of the various boat clubs located on the shores of the inlet, after which the municipality decided to take over the organization itself.
A local harbormaster ‘s office is also located in the cove.
The port offers all major services to its boaters, as well as two systems for collecting waste oil and sewage.
Incredibly picturesque and therefore popular with tourists and boaters passing through the region, this inlet stretches about a kilometer in length.
La Calanque de Port Miou was awarded the 2015 “Pavillon Bleu” award, the French “Blue Flag” title for ports that maintain the highest ecological and quality standards.
Within the area there are a few eateries, some nautical schools and a restaurant, which is easily accessible from the bottom of the bay.
The only beach in the gully is located just in its innermost part; it is small and sandy but not suitable for bathers to stop.
Port Miou Creek is part of the Parc National des Calanques, a protected area established specifically to preserve the diverse habitats and delicate ecosystem of the local fauna and flora.
Only 6 miles from Cassis and 13 miles from Marseille, the Calanque de Port Miou is an ideal landing place for those who want to tour the Côte d’Azur and the Côte d’ Côte d’Azur.
