Port de Cargèse

Port de Cargese is a marina located south of Calvi in the northwestern part of Sagone Bay in Corsica. Well protected by a 200-meter-long, northeast-facing breakwater and a breakwater reef signaled by beacons, it offers 235 berths for boats up to 18 meters. The harbor offers electricity and water supply, weather information, gas station, and a supermarket to stock up before leaving. In front of the ports there are a few restaurants where you can eat freshly caught fish.

Coming from the north conspicuous points are Cap Rossu and the Tuselli points , which must be circumvented by staying at a distance of about 300 meters from the coast to avoid the numerous rocks, shoals and islets facing them. After passing the last point continue to the stone jetty enclosing the harbor transom. Approach it keeping 150 m south of the breakwater to avoid the outcropping rocks. Coming from the south pass cap da Feno along the Gulf of Sagone from which you can already spot Cap Rossu, the Tuselli tips and the village of Cargese overlooking the port with its two bell towers.

Enter the port by advancing at low speed in a westerly direction and after passing the North Pier turn left approaching the fuel station while waiting for instructions from the Harbor Master’s Office. Entry in strong southwesterly winds is not recommended. Access to the ports is allowed only during the day.

Cargese is a small town built on a promontory that was created to accommodate the Greek community exiled to Corsica at the time of Genoese rule. The more modern part of the town is developed along the highway where several hotels and restaurants are located. The old town with its narrow alleys and light-colored houses harkens back to some Greek island.

Local attractions are the two churches in the village as well as the beaches of white sand and crystal clear water stretching north and south. Worth mentioning are the beaches of Chiuni, Topiti and Menasina. On the beach Plage du Pero north of the town of Cargese frequented by many surfers it is possible to rent windsurfs, kayaks and surfboards. The Cargese area is suitable for boat trips and scuba diving. From Cargese begins a hiking trail to Mount Cinto, the highest elevation on the island, which reaches 2706 m above sea level.
