Marina Punat

Marina Punat port is the oldest port in Croatia, built in 1964 to, legend has it, moor three – number three – boats. Open year-round, the Marina Punat port is located in the southeastern part of one of the Adriatic Sea’s largest islands,KrK Island, which stands out in front of Dalmatia’s northern coast, in Kvarner Bay, a renowned and crowded yacht landing place in the Adriatic Sea. The marina is located right next to the town of Punat, in a bay that remains naturally protected from the winds and swells, with a small opening to the sea, thus providing natural protection for the yachts and boats moored there.

The entrance to Kvarner Bay faces south while the ports of Marina Punat extend on the eastern shore of the bay, right next to the point of entry into the bay. 11 piers perpendicular to the beach make up Marina Punat, which given the calm nature of its waters and winds has no breakwater. While nature has graced Marina Punat on the other hand it has disadvantaged it with a shallow seabed, in fact to enter the bay where the marina is located the skipper of theboat has to navigate through a narrow channel, only 3 mt deep that gets shallower and shallower as it gets closer to the mainland but is still well signaled by flashing lights on both sides.

As for berths in addition to those in the sea, Marina Punat can accommodate up to 500 dry berths for boats up to 15 meters in length. The 11 piers in the water are connected to water supplies, electricity and wi-fi Internet connection, and a special facility is also equipped for repairs and winter storage.

Marina Punat has won several awards and has been recognized many times as the best port in Croatia, winning Best Marina in Croatia three years in a row in 2008, 2009, 2010. Next to the marina is the Punat shipyard; both companies that operate the port and the shipyard are among the main ones in the Marina Punat group.

What can a stop at Marina Punat offer tourists? The landscape of theisland of Krk has rich vegetation, especially towards the hinterland while the coasts are marked by small fishing and farming towns that retain the charm of old rural communities. Certainly Marina Punat can be an ideal starting point for sailing between the islands Kvarnerić and Kornati, discover to beauty of Kvarner Bay, among the main ones on the Croatian Riviera. Staying will not be a problem, Krk and nearby Cres offer numerous villages and resorts while for those wishing to push inland tourist resorts such as Pula or Zadar can be reached by car or by plane from the nearby Rijeka airport.
