Novalja Marina offers 100 berths for boats of 20 m maximum length and 5 m maximum draft. A hydrofoil moors at the dock in the harbor every evening and stays until the following day. On either side of the quay are generally fishing boats. During the summer season, recreational buoys are installed in the area between the crane and the fuel station. Mooring and departure operations from the fuel station can be difficult due to the confined space, especially in sea breezes.
Novalja is located northwest of the island of Pag toward the open sea and faces Mali Lošinj, Silba, and Olib. Radice has its roots in Roman times, when it was a safe port on the eastern Adriatic. Of particular archaeological significance in Novalja are the area of Caska, a Roman colony destroyed by an earthquake in the 4th century, the ancient 1st-century underground aqueduct carved out of living stone about 1 km long and up to 40 m high with entrance from the Town Museum, and the Vlaška Mala Bay where a shipwrecked Roman merchant ship laden with amphorae was found. The archaeological site is currently protected by a metal cage accessible only to researchers, but can still be visited by divers. Those who could not dive can still take advantage of the extensive photographic documentation at the town museum.
Today Novalja is a lively seaside resort with numerous restaurants, bars and ice cream parlors and a waterfront that comes alive in the evenings with music and markets well into the night. In its vicinity are numerous beaches such as Straško, Babe, Trincel and Branicevica.
The most important and famous is Zrce beach, located on the western side of Pag Bay, with its pebble beach and crystal clear sea. The busiest discos on the island are concentrated on this beach, and in the summer months they host the biggest names in disco entertainment and electronic music.
Among the events worth mentioning is “Novalja’s Cultural Summer,” which features sports events, art exhibitions, concerts, theater performances as well as outdoor film screenings. As part of the event, themed evenings are offered where traditional music accompanies the tasting of typical local products, from pancakes, to almond cake, to dried fig bread.
