Porto Volme

Volme is an Istrian village located on the peninsula of Premantura, the last strip of Istria, a few kilometers from Pula. Here one can find various services (pharmacy, grocery store, bank, fuel distribution) and as in most of the Istrian coast, which is now highly touristy, one can find the various ancillary services such as renting various cars and jet skis and there is the possibility of practicing numerous sports including diving. In the area, bicycle paths connected by various trails are very popular with tourists and allow for long and interesting routes through nature. The Premantura peninsula is one of the most beautiful natural environments on the entire Istrian peninsula and also one of the most intact due to the establishment of “protected zone,” the flora is highly developed and various species of orchids can be found there. There are caves and islets on the coast, and the beaches are rocky.

The port of Volme is located in Paltana Bay (Porto Olmo Grande). The bay is very large, a lot of construction has taken place in this area in recent years, and open construction sites can still be seen. The marina is part of a much larger complex consisting of villas and apartments. You can moor here, first you have to stop at the pier where at the base is the manager who will direct you to a marina berth and where you can pay, daily berths also possible. Coming from the south it is recommended to keep offshore and to the west of the Porer rock lighthouse with white flashing light (3 seconds) since the tip of Istria is full of rocks and shoals, also in this area sometimes there is the phenomenon of cross seas with very irregular currents up to 3 knots. For those who want to pass to the east, does ch want to visit Feloniga isoloto where there are dinosaur footprints, approach the area only with very calm seas and on days with excellent visibility.

Until a few years ago (during the construction period) the area was avoided by boaters because of unpleasant events such as theft and because of the construction site. Now the complex “Aparthotel del mar” very clearly visible on the left when entering the bay has been completed. All in all, the port of Volme is well laid out logically because in addition to offering good protection from the winds it is logistically well positioned given its proximity to both the Premantura peninsula and Pula. Not suitable for sailors who seek tranquility and want to avoid concrete.
