In the early 1960s, Derek and June Holt, along with their daughters Linda, Christine and Sandra, enjoyed surfing the Clyde from a mooring at Cardwell Bay in Gourock. Derek learned about a new innovation in boat mooring being developed overseas, which provided the boardwalk in a facility we enjoy today. Being very familiar with the dangers of delivering family and supplies to a boat on a mooring, he immediately saw the potential. Identifying salting in Inverkip; Kip Marina was born in an interior that provided an exceptional retreat in the midst of a magnificent rural setting.
Construction continued until the late 1960s, which coincided with the new Inverkip main road and the start of the recently demolished power plant and chimney construction. The first phase was completed in 1971, and in our gallery you will see a 1973 photo of a completed Kip Marina. It was the first marina in Scotland (just one of the reasons we are the Premier of Scotland!) And only two other marinas in the UK were built at the same time as Kip. Originally, the Marina was designed for 250 boats, but was expanded to 600 berths in 1984. In 1985, the Chartroom Bar & Restaurant was built along with the extended shower and toilet facilities. These facilities were renovated in 2007 to provide much cleaner and more elegant facilities and for Kip sleepers. All of the docks in the marina have been replaced, as well as the electrical system, lighting, corridors and doors, along with a new state-of-the-art webcam system with cctv coverage and we offer WI-FI connection within the marina. It allows Internet access from your boat. We also have one of the most active brokerage departments in Scotland and host the Boat Show in Scotland every year. This program is the most popular and successful program for buyers and sellers in Scotland, the program itself is almost 30 years old.
