Traditionally an important fishing port that was home to a huge fishing fleet, Peel remains the most active fishing port on the Isle of Man.
It is also an important port for importing fuel oil and hosts the occasional cruise ship visit.
Located on the west coast, Peel also has a large fish and seafood processing industry and is home to the traditional art of fish farming with organized tours for visitors throughout the seasoning season (May through September).
Peel’s distinguishing feature is its ancient castle that dominates the entrance to the inner ports, which also houses the award-winning Manannan House History Center, open year-round for visitors.
