Porto di Ponza

The port of Ponza, as we admire it today, dates back to the time of King Ferdinand IV of Bourbon, who succeeded his father Charles III, who initiated the colonization of the island in 1734 by providing for its urbanization plan. The project of the “Bourbon forum,” of which the port is an integral part, was entrusted to Major of the Engineer Corps Antonio Winspeare , an ordinary engineer, assisted by architect Francesco Carpi, who was the executor of the work and who made some variations, dictated by the particular conformation of the places.

Taking a leap of a few hundred years, we arrive at 2015 when the administration provided for the placement, on the quay, of plants and benches that make the first approach to arriving in Ponza pleasant. The old power plant located in the center was replaced by one built far from the town center with all the benefits that come with it.

St. Anthony’s waterfront was beautified with the construction of a pedestrian pathway cantilevered over the beach.

The port , when all the mobile docks are operational, has a receptivity of about 200-230 berths. After the departure of the last hydrofoil and until 8 a.m. thefollowing morning , mooring is allowed at the Musco pier after contacting the Capitaneria Di Portoon VHF channel 16; mooring at anchor in a delimited port area is allowed instead. After the arrival of the last ferry until 8 a.m. the following morning is also allowed in the stretch of water in front of Frontone Beach.
