The Port of Duca degli Abruzzi is a private facility intended exclusively for its members, although in case of need the club also grants temporary hospitality to outsiders. The marina provides mooring, miscellaneous and hauling services to its guests, in addition to the many facilities available within private clubs.
The port is located within the much larger Genoa Harbor Basin and enjoys a central location in the city, between the Old Port and the Genoa Fairgrounds. Access by sea is through the eastern entrance to the port of Genoa, at the Punta Vagno lighthouse. From there, one must skirt the entrance channel on the starboard side for about 500m, from the Genoa fairgrounds to Molo Cagni, transiting the entrance channel about 40m wide exclusively. From here, you can pull over to starboard and enter the marina.
At the Porticciolo Duca degli Abruzzi is the nautical headquarters of the Yacht Club Italiano, which has 7 pontoons, 6 floating and one on the quay, for about 200 poet berths. Other berths are reserved for the Italian Naval League (100 berths) and the Rowing Club Genovese (12 berths) and Rowing Society Elpis (68 berths).
The most notable presence within Porticciolo Duca degli Abbruzzi is certainly the Yacht Club Italiano, founded in 1879, which is still the oldest sailing club in the Mediterranean.
Also of special interest are its headquarters, which was destroyed and rebuilt after the bombings of World War II, and its library, which provides members with more than 1,500 volumes, as well as numerous nautical magazines.
By land, the marina can be reached by car from the city by taking the Aldo Moro causeway and exiting at Via della Marina to access the Molo Giano Port Varco.
Alternatively, you can reach the marina by subway by getting off at the S. Agostino stop, at the Via/Piazza della Marina exit from which you can directly access the Molo Giano Port Varco.
Points of interest
An important point of interest around Porticciolo Duca degli Abbruzzi is undoubtedly the Fiera di Genova, where the Genoa Boat Show, one of the world’s most important fairs dedicated to recreational boating, is held every year between September and October.
Curiosities
At the end of the Giano Pier, at the mouth of the Duca degli Abruzzi Marina, is the Port of Genoa’s pilot control tower, which collapsed during the sad accident on May 7, 2013, following a collision with the container ship Jolly Nero.
