Vecchio porto comunale di Stresa – Navigazione sul Lago Maggiore

Ports of Piedmont – The docking of Stresa

Within the area of the Borromean Gulf, with deep waters and a wide inlet that makes it easy for boats to access, is the POld Garden. The entire harbor area is not equipped with any safety facilities for recreational boating. The entrance is marked by red and green turrets and next to it are some landing slips with mooring rings for small boats. The area is heavily trafficked by scheduled and private boats that create an annoying wave motion. The new infrastructure, which is under construction, will provide numerous moorings and services to the boating industry. A boat-taxi service shuttles to the Borromean Islands and offers a connection to all the other villages on Lake Maggiore. It is possible to reach all destinations with a public or private pier from the lake where there issuitable mooring. Transportation is also arranged for meetings and conferences.

Stresa is situated in a panoramic position below the slopes of Mottarone. The numerous villas, parks, gardens, flower-filled lakefront, and Borromean Islands make Stresa one of the most important resorts on Lake Maggiore. Various cultural, sports and social events attract many tourists. The Settimane Musicali di Stresa e del Lago Maggiore is undoubtedly a major event in the panorama of European classical music festivals, within which internationally renowned artists perform each year. Stresa is also a starting point for scenic excursions.

The territory is partly coastal, partly insular, partly hilly, and partly mountainous. The coastal part, facing Lake Maggiore includes the historic core of Stresa, and the hamlet of Carciano, the insular part includes three of the four Borromean Islands. Stresa is connected to the ski resort and botanical garden by a cable car divided into two sections, the first section leading from Stresa to Giardino Alpinia while the second section ascends from Giardino Alpinia to Mottarone on which some ski facilities are located.

Hotels, restaurants, and private residences line the lakefront, and there are several public beaches. Equipped beaches include thel Lido di Carciano, Villa Pallavicino and the Regina Beach – Lido Blu.
