Marina Da Figueira Da Foz

The origins of its occupation date back to prehistoric times. Its strategic and privileged location on the shores of the rich estuary led throughout history to the establishment of numerous civilizations that were dedicated to trade and fishing.

The population is believed to have been founded in the 11th century by the servants of the Sé de Coimbra. Since then, the population has grown steadily. Throughout the 16th century the population is ravaged by constant pirate attacks, when it is necessary to build the Fort of Santa Catarina to defend the area.
