Cascais Marina is, by setting, the setting of major international events and is passionate about being a comfortable and welcoming leisure area for all who visit.
In recent years, it has hosted major competitions, including the America’s Cup World Series Cascais 2011, ISAF World Sailing Championship 2007, 49er European Championship, QuebraMar Regatta, Cowes-Cascais, The Round Portugal Sailing Tour, Portugal Match Cup, and His Majesty King Juan Carlos I Trophy, among many other competitions that have distinguished Cascais Marina in Portugal and around the world.
These great competitions have made the Navy a meeting place not only for sailors but also for the royals of old Europe, some of whom are themselves passionate about the sea and sailing, as in the case of King Juan Carlos I of Spain, Constantine of Greece, and Harold of Norway.
Cascais has been the setting for some of the world’s most important sailing events and has a natural connection to water sports and everything related to the sea. This was reflected by King D. Carlos I, the last king of Portugal and the last of a long royal lineage who chose Cascais as his summer residence. Cascais Bay is a short distance from Lisbon but has a cosmopolitan feel, creating a relaxed sense of well-being, as if it were a million miles from the capital. The king was a devoted oceanographer and widely respected for his maritime studies. He established in this fishing town one of the most important oceanographic laboratories in the world. Sailors and water sports enthusiasts join tourists and the Portuguese elite in the city and bay of Cascais.
