Marina di Leuca

Ports of Puglia in Salento: Santa Maria di Leuca

Historically a crossroads of the Mediterranean, the “seaport” rises along the Salento coast, among the most beautiful in the entire Apulia region, in the inlet between Punta Ristola and Punta Meliso, a point of union between the Ionian and Adriatic Seas.

The ports consists of a three-armed breakwater, which has a perpendicular panel 200 meters from the head, and an internally docked breakwater.
The piers serve as protection to the basin.
The landing’s floating docks are located in the northern part, at the shore dock (132 meters long), while at the far end of the port are fishing boats as well as some pleasure craft at the buoys.
There are moorings reserved for boats in transit, either at the buoys operated by the sailing club or at the jetties located to the left of the harbor entrance.

The areas reserved for boaters are managed, for the most part, by the company Porto Turistico Marina di Leuca Spa and partly by the Italian Naval League and theMaritime Authority.

Water and electricity are available at the moorings.
Engine and fiberglass hull repair services, electrical repairs, outdoor boat storage available.
Fuel station is located along the east dock.

Port access

Prior to entering the ports, it is necessary to apply for permission and berth assignment via VHF channel 12.
The maximum speed allowed is 2 knots.

Nearby coves and caves to visit by boat

All along the coastal area surrounding the harbor are beautiful natural caves carved out by time and storm surges, as well as man-made subterranean hollows that can only be reached by boat, in dinghies by sea.

  • Porcinara Cave (also called Portinaia Cave that can be reached not only by sea, but also from the road).
A cave 15 meters high and twice as deep.
  • Devil’s Cave.
  • River Cave.
  • Crib Cave.
  • Cave Three Ports.
  • Cave of the Child.
  • Cave of the Giants.
  • Caves of the Stable and the Dragon.

The anchorages of Punta Ristola and Punta Meliso provide good anchorages in case of Tramontana and Grecale.
