The commercial port is the oldest in the city, and is said to have been founded by Julius Caesar when he passed through in 46 BCE. C. It was later used as a favored port of call for the Kingdom of Sardinia, being the fastest sea link to the Savoy’s Piedmont.
The western part is called the teleferic dock because it was used to transport iron ore by that very means.
The current port has two floating docks, one 120 meters long and the other 72 meters long. It is located close to the city, allowing it to be visited without any particular difficulty in moving around.
