Porto di Palau

The port of Palau – Where to dock in Sardinia

Located in front of the Maddalena Archipelago, the port of Palau is strategically located to reach the Costa Smeralda area, the Mouths of Bonifacio and southern Corsica. The Palau Marina is an ideal base for visiting the islands of the Maddalena Archipelago, which are part of the Nature Park of the same name (La Maddalena, Caprera, Santo Stefano, Spargi, Budelli, Santa Maria, Razzoli, and the smaller islands) and the islands of southern Corsica, which belong to the Bocche di Bonifacio International Park (Lavezzi, Cavallo, Isola Piana).

The port structure unfolds a large elbow pier equipped with bollards, part of which is reserved for the Navy. The tourist part of the port is located south of the pier, and is reserved for boaters, who can dock on floating docks and piers (7 floating, 1 masonry) with boats up to 18 meters in length. The latter are managed by the municipality.

The depths of the docks range from 1.5 to 4 meters. At the entrance to the port is a fuel station and a dock for free transit and traffic boats. Outside the port is an area equipped with buoys where you can drop anchor. The seabed is good tenor.

The port has an 18-ton crane and a 60-ton travel-lift. A storage area is located in the eastern part of the port.

When maneuvering in and out, it is necessary to pay close attention to tourist barges and ferries making the route to La Maddalena. Attention should also be paid to the many chartered dinghies returning to ports usually in the evening hours.

The port of Palau is equipped with running water, electricity, toilets, showers, garbage bins, and the possibility to rent boats. The marina is located right in the center of the town of Palau, which offers several useful services for boaters and tourists: vehicle rental, supermarket, gas cylinder sales, nautical supply stores.

At the Park Authority office located on the main street in Palau, it is also possible to obtain permits and authorizations for various activities that can be carried out in the protected territory of the Maddalena Archipelago. It is advisable to consult the Park Authority’s website(www.lamaddalenapark.it), to check ways and costs of obtaining permits and authorizations.
