Cala Principale di Favignana

Favignana is the largest and most important island of the Egadi Islands. It is crisscrossed from north to south by the hilly ridge nicknamed Montagna Grossa and has two mooring points, Cala Principale and Punta Longa.

Main Cove has a circular shape, with an opening to the north and north – west. From the eastern end of the Cove departs a breakwater pier in a North – West direction. This pier, currently undergoing work to extend it, is internally docked and is used for ferry docking.

From the breakwater pier departs in a southerly direction the St. Leonard Pier, which is undergoing work to consolidate the quay. The Main Pier, on the other hand, departs from the quay in Piazza Marina and is used to allow docking for pleasure boats. At the end of the Cove, the presence of a beach is emphasized.

The port of Cala Principale is characterized by a mixed sandy-rocky seabed with the presence of seaweed. It should be noted that near the fuel station at the quay the seabed is shallow, about 3 meters. There are 100 berths available, 30 of which are reserved exclusively for boats in transit.

The southern head of Molo S. Leonardo offers berths to vessels between 15 and 60 meters in length and having a maximum draft of 5.5 meters. These berths are managed by the Egadi Island Moorers.

The commercial dock allows berthing, from h 7:30 pm to 07:30 am, for boats that have a maximum length of 70 meters and do not exceed 6 meters draft. 30 berths are reserved for boats of up to 20 meters long and 4 meters wide.

The west side of the inner jetty is reserved for vessels longer than 7.5 meters. The dock at Piazzale Marina, on the other hand, can accommodate boats up to 7.5 meters in length.

The moorings are managed by La Darsena di Gigi and the Marina di Favignana.

The period from April 1 to July 15 is the tuna fishing period: during these months, the stretch of water is reserved for tuna trap units, and it is advisable to pay close attention to the tuna trap’s markings in the vicinity of the Piazzale Marina.

The fuel station is located at the quay. It dispenses gasoline and diesel fuel and is open from h 8 a.m. until 7:30 p.m.

Some berths are exclusively reserved for state agencies while others, marked with yellow stripes, are left free for emergency situations and for boat renters.

The services provided are many. Sockets for drinking water and electricity are available; there is no shortage of slipway, mobile crane and slipway as well as outdoor storage.

Engine repairs, electrical and electronic repairs, sail repairs, and wood and fiberglass hull repairs are carried out.

Pilotage service is available. Divers and moorers are always present, while security is provided by the security guard service. Boaters can make use of showers and toilets, as well as garbage pickup service and telephone booths.

Car parking is available. There is no shortage of bars, restaurants, supermarket, and ice resale nearby.
