Porto Turistico di San Leone

San Leone owes its name to Pope Leo II, who was of Sicilian origin. Only 4 km away from the splendid Valley of the Temples and the historical and artistic beauty of the city of Agrigento, the port was very busy until the Arab period and then fell into disuse during the Middle Ages. Unfortunately, very little remains of the Greek period, partly because of the strong urbanization of the district during the last century.

The lido has a marina built in the 1980s to protect the adjacent waterfront. It provides mooring facilities for small and medium-sized boats (not exceeding 25 m).

The marina consists of a three-arm breakwater pier and a sub-billow pier, both oriented in a southerly direction. The first arm of the breakwater pier constitutes the western quay: 4 floating docks capable of accommodating up to 250 berths depart from it, 20 of which are reserved for vessels in transit.

The western quay has recently undergone considerable silting due to heavy swells, which is indicated by stakes anchored to the bottom with a red overhead light. These demarcate the body of water with risky bottom. It is recommended to enter the port by sailing farther from the green light and closer to the red light.

One pier is operated by the San Leone Yachting Club; the other three, which are more recently installed, are operated by private individuals and offer boaters mooring facilities. The San Leone Yacthing Club has a fueling station for the exclusive use of members. The gas station is open from h 7:00 am to h 8:00 pm.

Six floating docks branch off from the east dock. These are entrusted to the management of private clubs but have free places available for boats in transit; the pontoons are provided with water, lighting, and guard service. Recently the Mare Nostrum Association has created several exclusive services for boaters in transit including shower stalls with hot water, laundry service, hairdresser, guided tours to the Valley of the Temples, free wifi internet connection , galley service, organization of tasting of typical products directly on the boat, car rental service, weather report.

The North Quay is managed by the Naval League but only members can moor there.

Since in the right side of the inlet the seabed is only 2 meters deep, it is recommended to stay on the right center for entry maneuvers and on the left center on exit.

Near the port of San Leone, boaters can make excursions along the coast or walk miles of free beaches. There is no shortage of entertainment for young people, with nightclubs and kiosks by the sea.
