Porto di Augusta

Augusta Landing: ports in Sicily

With 6.5 km of protective breakwaters (with two inlet openings), a body of water of 23,000,000m2 and a draft with an average depth of 14-18 meters, the port infrastructure in Augusta Bay, Syracuse, is the largest natural harbor in the lower Mediterranean, as well as among the ports of Sicily.
The maximum length of boats is about 40 meters in the dock, while at anchor there is no length limit.
It houses inside

  • The commercial ports
  • An industrial hub
  • A military base
  • Two docks

The bay consists of three major sections

  1. Porto Xifonio, or the sea area between Punta Izzo and Punta Carcarella
  2. Megarese Harbor, the area of inland anchorages bounded by dykes (northern, central, southern)
  3. Seno del Priolo, the area in front of the oil refining facilities.

There are shipyards equipped to provide complete maintenance and repair services for boats and large ships, as well as boat storage and refueling.

Dedicated areas for boating

Part of the landings are reserved for tourist and pleasure boats.

  • Pier Cove: 310 m at the quay. Depth of the seabed up to 8 m.
  • St. Andrew’s wharf: for 70 meters, depths up to 8 meters.
